SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - A woman accused of trying to kill her 6-month-old baby by crashing her vehicle off a Sioux Falls Interstate has pleaded not guilty.
Thirty-four-year-old Julia Alzoubaidi made her initial court appearance Friday morning.
She is charged with attempted first-degree murder and felony child abuse. She pleaded not guilty to both charges, according to the Minnehaha County State's Attorney office.
In October, Alzoubaidi crashed her vehicle off Interstate 229 into the Big Sioux River.
Court documents state Alzoubaidi left a suicide note in her car, stating she decided to kill her six-month-old child because he showed signs of an attachment disorder, a condition in which infants show signs of detachment, such as disliking being held.
If convicted, Alzoubaidi faces up to 25 years in prison for the attempted murder charge, and up to 15 years for the child abuse charge.
