BISMARCK, N.D. – The North Dakota Department of Health (NDDoH) has been notified of a produced water spill resulting from a mechanical failure at a salt water disposal (SWD) facility in Williams County. The SWD is owned and operated by Hess Bakken Investments II, LLC.
The incident occurred about 8 miles south of Tioga on April 20, and it was reported the next day.
Produced water is a by-product of oil and gas development.
Initial estimates indicate approximately 390 barrels of produced water were released and impacted an agricultural field. Personnel from the NDDoH are inspecting the site and will continue to monitor the investigation and remediation.
