MINOT, N.D. (KFYR) A Lansford, ND man will serve nine months in jail after he pleaded guilty Wednesday to punching an 11-month-old child a year ago.
According to court records, 30-year-old Derrick McLean entered the guilty plea to a charge of child abuse, victim under the age of six.
The victim was treated for bruising on the left side of her face. The child’s mother told investigators that McLean initially denied knowledge of what happened, but later admitted to striking the child out of frustration because she would not stop crying.
The judge sentenced McLean to five years, with all but nine months suspended. He could have faced up to 10 years on the B-felony charge.
McLean will also serve three years of supervised probation and must avoid contact with the victim.
