NBC - Pinterest is starting to crack down on the spread of misinformation on its site.
Pinterest is blocking some search results in an effort to stop the spread of unsubstantiated health claims.
The social media company specifically banned search terms related to "vaccines" to curb anti-vaccination posts from spreading on the platform.
The company said most shared images on Pinterest relating to vaccination cautioned against it, which goes against established medical guidelines and research showing that vaccines are safe.
Pinterest said it's also blocking searches for unproven cancer therapies, citing a similar spread of misinformation.
The move comes as Pinterest files for an IPO with an expected valuation of 12 billion dollars.
