Pembina County officer who wrecked squad car had stormy tenure
A whistleblower tipped off Valley News Live that a Pembina County Sheriff's deputy had fallen asleep at the wheel and wrecked his squad car.
A Valley News Live investigation revealed there was more going on with the deputy, who resigned Nov. 3.
According to a North Dakota Highway Patrol report, Pembina County Deputy Joshua Rau wrecked his police car when he fell asleep at the wheel, drifted across the on-coming lane and rolled into a Highway 5 ditch on Sept. 26.
The Valley News Live investigation led to internal issues with Rau.
Rau was given a three-day suspension without pay Oct. 6-8 for multiple policy violations, including texting while driving, speeding, not having his camera turned on and inconsistencies in his reports. He also was put on probation for a year.
In one of his meetings with superiors, Rau said he should get respect because he's a cop.
