Parents charged with child neglect after death of infant

Authorities say an Idaho boy has been charged with a felony in the deadly shooting of a 10-year-old girl (MGN)

BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) Two parents in Bismarck are facing child neglect charges in the death of their eight-month-old child.

Bismarck Police say Ashlynn Seymour, 20, and Marcus Reineke, 20, were each given a $5,000 bond Monday when they appeared in court on a felony charge of child neglect.

An affidavit says the Bismarck Police Department has been investigating parental care of their prematurely born child.

The records detail filthy living conditions since the child was brought home from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, as well as instances in which the child had been left unattended while under the care of the parents.

Burleigh County Social Services conducted home visits during the child’s stay in the NICU, according to the affidavit, and reported a risk of neglect to the child due to inadequate parenting.

On August 22, investigators say the child was found face-down, unresponsive in a bassinet that contained a pillow and several blankets.

After showing pictures of the state of the bassinet to doctors, investigators reported they agreed it was an unsafe sleeping environment.
