A total of 16 cattle were killed after a tractor trailer ran off the roadway and into a snow-filled median.

Troopers with the North Dakota Highway Patrol say it happened Monday afternoon around noon on U.S. 2, about 3 miles west of Devil’s Lake. Trooper say a truck trailer passed a man who was towing a livestock trailer.

That’s when troopers say the driver who was towing the trailer was unable to see the roadway and ran off the road. The truck hit an embankment in the median, causing the livestock trailer to overturn onto its right side. The livestock trailer contained 83 head of cattle destined for the Devils Lake sale barn. A total of 16 cattle were killed in the crash.

The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained minor injuries.
