Medical emergency causes driver to crash into a traffic signal
A crash early Sunday morning has left one person injured.
Grand Forks Police say they were dispatched to the 1900 block of South Washington Street at 10 am on Sunday for a report of an impaired driver travelling Southbound on Washington Street.
Prior to making contact with the vehicle described as a Toyota Crossover, officers received multiple calls that the vehicle had crashed into a traffic signal pole located at 44th Ave. South and South Washington Street.
The driver was identified as Vanvleet 24 years old, a Grand Forks resident.
Police say the driver was experiencing a medical emergency and was evaluated and treated at the scene by Altru Ambulance.
After receiving treatment at the scene, the driver was released by medical personnel.
No other injuries or property damage was reported.
The vehicle suffered heavy front end and driver’s side damage which was towed as a result of the crash.
Altru and the GF Fire Department assisted with the incident.
