Man says he's lucky to be alive after massive pile up over the Red River
It was a scary situation for a lot of people Saturday.
There was a massive pile up involving multiple vehicles and two semis on I94 over the Red River.
"Thankful," it's a word used a lot during the holiday season.
But, for one Fargo man, it doesn't even begin to describe the way he's feeling after walking away from the crash without a scratch.
"I am really thankful my vehicle was parked in the place it was. The individual who caused the second accident, that hit my pickup and a semi--I told my family they probably would have been attending a funeral."
It happened fast, right in front of his eyes. He said the car leading the charge lost control and spun out. A semi and another vehicle quickly piled on.
With nowhere to go, this Good Samaritan pulled over, called 911 and jumped out of his pickup to help.
Moments later, he says, a car slid in and smashed into his pickup--five feet away from where he was standing.
"Had my pickup not been parked there, there would have been fatalities."
He's giving a lot of credit to emergency crews. He says they got there quickly, got the situation under control and had I94 back up.
"People need to understand and realize that in weather conditions like Saturday's , we need to slow down and take our time. I know it is a holiday weekend, but we need to slow down."
Two people were taken to the hospital. He says he's thankful he was able to go home and spend the holiday with his family and that he hopes the others involved will be able to do the same.
