Hawley police say a domestic disturbance prompted a large law enforcement presence

(Update 4:56 p.m.) - The Hawley Police Department is releasing more information on an incident that resulted in the arrest of one person.

Officers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance at the 900 block of Westgate Circle at 11:41 a.m. Wednesday, according to Hawley police.

A 33-year-old woman from Hawley called officers to report that her boyfriend had assaulted her.

Police said a 32-year-old man from Moorhead smashed his girlfriend’s car windows and then fled on foot once she called 911.

With help from the Minnesota State Patrol, Clay County Sheriff’s Office, and Glyndon Police Department, a perimeter was set up around the area. A K-9 unit from the Fargo Police Department also arrived.

The man was eventually located at 1:10 p.m. by an off-duty Clay County Sheriff's deputy near the Dollar General Store.

He was taken to Clay County Correctional Facility without incident, according to police.


One man is now in custody after running from police in Hawley.

The Clay County Sheriff's Department confirms authorities were in the town searching for a man involved in a domestic situation.

Viewers tell Valley News Live there was a large police presence on west side of town, causing concern for people in the area.
