Man dies from possible heroin overdose

Investigators in Beltrami county are looking into what they believe could the heroin overdose of a man. Investigators say the man had taken the drug earlier in the night and it could have caused his death. 21 year-old Jordan L Smith of Cass Lake, MN died after life saving measures weren't successful.

Beltrami County Deputies investigating possible Heroin Overdose Death

O’BRIEN TOWNSHIP—On Friday, March 9, 2018 at approximately 3:37 AM, the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office was called to the 13000 block of Power Dam Rd NE in Frohn Township in Beltrami County, (Frohn Township borders the City of Bemidji to the east) after receiving a call of a male subject not breathing from a suspected heroin overdose. Beltrami County 911 Dispatchers had the occupants of the residence begin CPR on the subject.

Upon Deputies arrival they continued lifesaving efforts. Bemidji Ambulance Service arrived on scene and efforts to revive the subject continued until all had been exhausted. The deceased was identified as Jordan L Smith, age 21, of Cass Lake, MN.

Persons in the residence had confirmed that Smith had ingested suspected heroin earlier in the night. An autopsy will be performed by the Beltrami County Coroner’s Office and will be complete once toxicology reports are finished.

Further investigation is pending with the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office.
