Man arrested after stealing a vehicle and leading police on foot pursuit

Moorhead, MN--- On 2/11/20 at approximately 12:36 PM, members of the Metro Area Street Crimes Unit were tracking a stolen vehicle that entered into the City of Moorhead. This same vehicle was also involved in a vehicle pursuit earlier in the day with a Clay County Deputy. The Street Crimes
The unit waited for the driver of the stolen car to park the vehicle before attempting to take him into custody. The driver parked the vehicle in the area of the 3500 Block of Village Green Drive. Members of the Street Crimes Unit attempted to block the path of the vehicle to prevent it
from fleeing the scene.

As Officers approached the parking spot, the driver of the vehicle attempted to flee by accelerating rapidly from the parking spot. The driver then intentionally rammed an unmarked squad car driven by a Clay County Deputy. He continued to attempt to flee in the vehicle and then rammed an unmarked squad car that was driven by a Fargo Police Officer. His vehicle became disabled and he then fled on foot from the area. Members of the Street Crimes Unit were able to locate the driver after a foot pursuit and take him into custody.

The suspect taken into custody is Abdi Ali, an 18-year-old male from Willmar, MN. He is currently being held at the Clay County Correctional Center for Felony Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle (two counts), 2nd Degree Assault (two counts), 4th Degree Assault, Fleeing on Foot and Possession of Stolen Property.

The Clay County Deputy and Fargo Police Officer were not injured. The suspect also was not injured.
