Police release name of Mahnomen man who died from gunshot wound

UPDATE: After a thorough investigation the Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office is releasing the name of the victim of the February 11th shooting. The victim was 29-year-old Jonathan Lafreniere of Mahnomen. Investigators concluded that Jonathan died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.


Original: On February 11th at 1:14 PM law enforcement officers in Mahnomen County responded to a report of a male with a gunshot wound in the City of Mahnomen. The adult male was taken to the Mahnomen Health Center and then transported to a Fargo hospital via Life Flight where he succumbed to his injuries. The identity of the male will not be released until family members have been notified.

The incident is under investigation by the MN Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), the Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office, and the White Earth Police Department.

Law enforcement officials believe that this was an isolated incident and that there is no threat to the public.
