NBC - Ride sharing company Lyft is launching some new safety and security features to protect riders.
Lyft is now planning to run continuous criminal background checks on its active drivers instead of just annual re-checks.
Any driver who does not pass the annual and continuous screenings will be barred from the company.
Lyft is also enhancing its identify verification.
The company will require drivers to carry both a valid driver's license and an up-to-date photo of their face to prevent potential identity fraud.
Uber began continuous background checks last year.
