Gunman identified in ballpark shooting
CBS News has confirmed the gunman has been identified by law enforcement as James T. Hodgkinson, 66, of Belleville, Illinois.
President Trump addressed the nation less than five hours after the shooting that wounded Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., and others at a baseball field in Alexandria, Va., just outside of Washington.
Trump confirmed the shooter, Hodgkinson, has died from his injuries.
"America is praying for all the victims of this terrible shooting," Trump said from the Diplomatic Room in the White House.
The president said that while lawmakers have their differences, "we do well in times like these."
CNN is reporting that investigators have found anti-Trump posts on social media pages belonging to the assailant in Wednesday morning's shooting at a GOP congressional baseball practice, a law enforcement official said on condition of anonymity.
