Grand Forks hotel evacuated after dryer catches on fire

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (Valley News Live) A Grand Forks hotel was evacuated early Sunday morning after a laundry machine caught on fire.

Fire crews responded to the Expressway Inn and Suites at 4:09 a.m. and found a light haze of smoke coming from the hotel’s main lobby area on the first floor, according to a media release.

The Grand Forks Fire Department stated in its release that there was an active fire in one of the hotel’s commercial laundry dryers, yet the automatic sprinkler system extinguished the flames.

Guests staying at the hotel were evacuated and there were no injuries reported, according to the fire department.

The damage to the hotel is estimated at $10,000.

The Grand Forks Fire Department is still investigating the fire’s cause.
