UPDATE: Emergency crews responded to a car that crashed into a Walmart store in Grand Forks.

Dispatchers confirmed that the crash happened at the 32nd Avenue South location just before 4 p.m. Friday.

When officers got to Walmart, a 2002 Mazda SUV, driven by 27-year-old Ahmed Digale had driven through the West side of the building and came to a resting position within the store.

Digale was travelling in the parking lot and tried to stop on the West side of the store.

However, his car kept moving and crashed through the fire doors of the building.

It finally came to a stop about 30 feet into the store after colliding with merchandise displays.

After the crash, the store was evacuated by Wal-Mart staff.

One customer was transported by ambulance to Altru Hospital for unknown injuries due to flying debris and another refused medical treatment at the scene.

Preliminary investigation indicates the accident was a result of mechanical failure of the vehicle.

The Grand Forks Fire Department and Altru Hospital Ambulance responded to the scene. The Grand Forks Fire Department remained at the scene to assist with the cleanup of various spilled materials within the store. The investigation remains open with pending charges on the driver of the Mazda SUV.
