Grand Forks Public Schools say a parent and three students were found dead

UPDATE: Communications Coordinator Tracy Jentz with Grand Forks Public Schools sent a statement out Thursday morning stating the following:

"This morning, the administration at Lewis and Clark Elementary asked the Grand Forks Police Department to conduct a welfare check at a private residence. Grand Forks Public Schools was informed that a parent and three students were found deceased in the residence. Families have been notified, and the district is working with the schools involved to provide support and counseling to students and staff. The Grand Forks Police Department has asked that we share no additional information as this is an ongoing investigation."

ORIGINAL: Thursday morning administration at Lewis and Clark Elementary School contacted the Grand Forks Police Department to request that a Welfare Check be done at a south end residence.

When police got to the scene they found a body inside the home and forced entry. Initial investigation revealed four deceased are being withheld at this time, pending notification of next of kin.

At this time, there are no indications of a specific and ongoing threat to the general public. Police say this aspect is being vigorously investigated, and should an ongoing threat to public safety be established, public notification will occur without delay.

This incident is under active investigation. The public is encouraged to avoid the area, to allow personnel on scene to fully investigate this incident.
