Alexandria, Minn. (Valley News Live) Investigators are trying to figure out what caused a massive fire in downtown Alexandria that destroyed four buildings and displaced at least 20 people.

The call for the fire came in around 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at a building on Broadway St., also known as Hwy. 29.

Roughly 100 fire fighters fought the flames for hours. The businesses affected include a tattoo shop, bar and grill, children's store and another local business. Some of the businesses had apartments above, resulting in people without a place to stay.

The Red Cross is now helping people who lost their homes.

Hwy. 29 will be closed in the area as crews work to clean up the scene.
