Former Sanford Center Executive Director Curtis Webb facing embezzlement charges

Authorities say an Idaho boy has been charged with a felony in the deadly shooting of a 10-year-old girl (MGN)

Beltrami County, MN--- Beltrami County Attorney, David Hanson, announced today that charges against former Sanford Center Executive Director Curtis Webb will be filed in District Court today in connection to financial crimes he committed while Executive Director of the Sanford Center in Bemidji from 2013 to 2016.

Webb is being charged with a single count of Theft by Swindle for a scheme involving tens of thousands of dollars for fraudulent expense reimbursements. Investigators from the Beltrami County Sheriff’s office were able to track down records of Webb’s reimbursement requests which often included hotels, airfare, event registration, rental cars, and food.

However, when investigators contacted the various venues and hotels, no record of Webb attending those events or staying at those hotels could found. Furthermore, flight records obtained by investigators also supported the fact that he did not attend the events he purported to, and in some case even directly contradicted his claims, for example, for one event that he claimed to attend in New York City, he actually flew to Cleveland, Ohio during the time in question.

Webb’s conduct was the subject of a Minnesota State Auditor’s Office investigative report which concluded that Webb was involved in over one hundred dollars’ worth of improper or questionable transactions.

Webb currently faces charges in McLean County, Illinois in connection to a similar scheme involving the U.S. Cellular Coliseum where Webb was employed as an Executive Director of that facility after he left Bemidji.

Hanson would like to thank Investigator Joseph Kleszyk for his excellent work unraveling this very complex case.
