(NBC) - A new tool can help you determine your closet's environmental impact. It's called "Fashion Footprint Calculator" from the online consignment platform "Thred-Up".
The average consumer contributes about 1,620 pounds of carbon dioxide per year.
The Fashion Footprint Calculator will ask a series of questions, like how often do you buy clothes, your laundry habits, or whether you repair clothes, or just toss them.
It will then calculate the carbon footprint of your closet and give you tips on how to reduce it.
Fashion is one of the most polluting industries in the world- Thred-Up discovered that while 92% of women want to shop more sustainably, two out of every three women say they have no idea how to lower their fashion footprint.
