Fargo man sentenced after robbing local jewelry store last year

FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) - A Fargo man charged with robbery after robbing a local jewelry store last year was sentenced to four years in prison today in Cass County Court.

25-year-old Victor Velazquez is sentenced to four years in prison, followed by two years of prob ration after he plead guilty to a felony charge of robbery with dangerous weapon. Velazquez is receiving credit for 208 days served, and also faces fines near 5,000 dollars.

Officials say Velazquez went into Riddles Jewelry on morning of June 29, 2018 with a handgun and demanded bags of jewels. In the process, he zip-tied one employee, then forced the others to gather the jewels and bring them out to his white van.

He then headed south on I-29, and led police on a chase before eventually pulling over along the interstate where we was taken into custody.

None of the employees in the store were hurt during the heist.
