BECKER COUNTY, Minn. (Valley News Live) -- Family members of the man shot Sunday in Becker County say he was a rock for them and will never be forgotten.
Authorities Monday identified the victim as 27-year-old Jamie Lee Bevins Jr.
It happened early Sunday morning at a home about 20 miles northeast of Detroit Lakes.
"He took my son, he took her dad," said Jamie's mother, Theresa Villebrun.
Just after three Sunday morning, Theresa Villebrun was told about a shooting involving her son.
"My daughter called me back a little while later and told me he was shot, and they couldn't find him," said Villebrun.
It's news that no mother ever wants to hear. Jamie, or "Honker" as they called him, was shot and killed Sunday morning.
The family gathered a day later to remember their son.
"He's a rockstar, you know," said his mother. "My son's awesome."
"He was a giving person," said Jamie's father. "He was always happy. He had some bad days every once in a while, but he'd be smiling through anything anyway."
Jamie had a nine-year-old daughter.
"He was fun; he did everything with me," said his daughter Shaylin Bevins. "I loved him so much."
Shaylin said he always had a good joke to tell.
"He said knock knock I said who's there," said Shaylin. "He said the interrupting cow; I said the interrupting cow who, and he said moo."
Jamie's father says whether the sun was out or if there was a blizzard, he had everyone's back.
The family said they will be holding a wake for Jamie, but they don't know when.
Although authorities aren't identifying the man suspected in the shooting, family members said they know who he is and want justice for Jamie's death.
