The new fire chief of Northwood was forced to experience baptism under fire.

After only five days on the job, Jason Korsmo responded to his first call: An early-morning fire that destroyed a longtime trucking business owned by his father.

The blaze at Korsmo Brothers Trucking was called in about 2:30 a.m. Friday.

No one was injured, but the business was a total loss. Owner and patriarch Dave Korsmo estimated the damage to be between $1 million and $2 million.

"It was substantial," he said. "We lost a lot of equipment. The building was pretty full because it was 20 below."

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The trucking company's website says it operates in 48 states and Canada.
