NEVIS, Minn. (Valley News Live) - It was a winter day that residents of Nevis, Minnesota would like to forget.
Two sisters, 40 year-old Heidi Pierce and 37-year-old Candi Goochey, were killed by their brother-in-law 34-year-old Bryce Bellomo.
Valley News Live obtained dash cam video of the events that transpired on that Valentine’s Day of 2019 after submitting an open records request nearly eight months ago.
Video showed deputies arriving to a home for a report of a violent crime. Both women were murdered in front of a daycare.
Authorities eventually found a black SUV driven by Bellomo refusing to stop.
During the pursuit with Hubbard County deputies, Bellomo fired several rounds as he's driving striking a patrol car, hitting the deputy. The officer would survive multiple gunshot wounds.
Two other deputies would join the pursuit following Bellomo closely. He at one point stopped the vehicle and fired his 9mm gun at the deputies.
Both deputies crashed into a snow embankment to avoid gunfire and, fortunately, they weren't hurt.
Authorities would wait unsure whether Bellomo took off running or was still in his vehicle. They would eventually find him inside the vehicle dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Investigators later determined that the shootings were prompted by a domestic dispute between Bellomo and his wife, who was sister to the two victims.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension investigated the incident and determined that the actions of law enforcement were justified.
