GRAND FORKS, N.D. (Valley News Live) -- The long lines continue at Fargo's Department of Motor Vehicle office. The wait at times is three hours long.
You don't have to wait days to take your driving test if you're willing to do some driving.
One state and two different stories.
The Fargo DMV gets pretty busy as people look to take tests, update records, every day driving-related tasks.
From the long lines inside, it's not precisely the place you want to be if you're in a rush. Some say it's been a four-hour wait.
It's a much different story at the DMV in Grand Forks; there's not really a wait.
"That's crazy," said Kimberly Woodbury from Grand Forks. "Compared to here, I'm shocked; that's really crazy. I don't even want to think about it."
Kimberly Woodbury says it only took her 30 minutes for her son to get his permit.
"Gary got finished in about three minutes, so it was very efficient," said Ellen Brehmer from Grand Forks. "It was nice. I was worried."
She's worried because of the long lines she's heard about in Fargo.
So the next time you need something from the DMV, maybe you can head north.
"I wouldn't blame them if they did," said Brehmer.
"Two hours of driving for like maybe you save 30 minutes total, doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense to me," said Woodbury.
The DMV says it doesn't matter whether you go to the one in Fargo of Grand Forks. They say the best time to go is early in the morning or between 2-3 in the afternoon.
We talked with the state office in Bismarck about Fargo's situation.
They say it's because more people are moving to Fargo, and there's an increased number of new Americans looking to get their driver's licenses.
