HORACE, N.D. (Valley News Live) - UPDATE: A fatal crash occurred on I-29 at the northbound underpass of exit 48 (Hwy. 46 exit) at approximately 1:55 pm on yesterday. The fatal crash involved three vehicles, a 2011 Ford F250, 2005
Dodge Caravan and a 2018 Freightliner semi-truck towing a 2007 Great Dane reefer trailer. The Ford, driven by Leon Koeppe (Sisseton, SD) and Dodge, driven by Delmar Ruff (Fargo, ND) were northbound in the right lane and were passed by a large vehicle, creating a white-out condition. The Ford and Dodge slowed because
of the white-out condition. The Freightliner, driven by Joseph Gallagher (Hillsboro, ND) approached the Dodge and Ford from the rear and struck the Dodge, pushing it into the east ditch. The Freightliner then crashed into the rear passenger side of the Ford. Both the Ford and Freightliner came to rest in the median. Delmar Ruff, the lone occupant of the Dodge, was killed in the crash and dead on scene. Ruff was not wearing a seat belt. The occupants of the Ford and Freightliner were seat belted and were uninjured. Speed and weather conditions at the time of the crash were contibuting factors.
ORIGINAL: One person is dead after a three car accident on I-29 near Horace, North Dakota, around 1:55 P.M. Monday.
A Ford F250 and a Dodge Caravan were heading northbound on Interstate 29 in the right lane, when they were passed by a large Cecile, creating white-out conditions, forcing the two cars to slow down. A Freight liner semi-truck towing a reefer trailer then struck the rear of the Dodge Caravan, pushing it into the Ford. The Dodge came to rest in the ditch; the Ford and semi came to rest in the median.
The driver of the Dodge was not wearing a seat belt and pronounced dead on scene. No other passengers were in the car.
The occupants of the Ford and Freight liner were seat belted and were uninjured.
The crash remains under investigation. The names of all parties will be released on the afternoon of January 1st, 2019.
ORIGINAL: Crews are responding to a fatal accident involving two cars and a semi off of Interstate 29 and 54th St South East near Horace, North Dakota.
The call came in around 2 P.M. Monday.
Our crew on scene says the two cars involved include a minivan and a pick-up truck, as well as a U.S. Foods semi.
Officials confirmed that there is one fatality, but no further information has been released at this time.
