OAKES, ND (Valley News Live) - A daycare in Oakes, North Dakota was investigated after a complaint was filed with Dickey County Social Services.
A correction order dated October 16 says social services was alerted to a concern at Tiny Tornadoes regarding a child being tied to a chair.
Social services followed up on this concern with multiple interviews.
It was found that "scarves or homemade aprons would be used to secure children to a seat." The order says this was being done during lunch to keep children in their seats.
Social services says in an interview they confirmed that some children had been restrained in a high chair or a regular chair with a scarf as discipline.
Policy states that mechanical restraints will be not used as discipline. The daycare posted a letter sent out to parents on their Facebook page stating that this form of restraint will no longer be used.
A copy of the letter and also the correction order have been attached to this story.
