Concern over viral TikTok challenge
There's concern in the Valley with the latest trend on a popular social media app your kids likely use.
It's called the "Cha-Cha Slide Challenge" and it's gone viral on TikTok.
There are several videos on the app and it's causing people, mostly young driver, to swerve their cars all over the road.
Allyson Tracy and her friends say they're pretty active on TikTok.
They say, they just finished making one at a candy shop at West Acres Mall.
"We spent like 15 minutes trying to get it on time," Tracy says. "We just wanted to hop on the trend."
These girls are among a growing number well aware of the latest trends, including the "Cha-Cha Slide Challenge."
"I would never do it, just driving down the road," Tracy says. "Or do that to my friends. That could cause a lot of injury, not only to my friends, but others on the road."
The basic premise involves listening to the song, "Cha-Cha Slide."
When the lyrics say, "slide to the left," you jerk the steering wheel that way. "Slide to the right," same thing.
"I would be scared if I saw a car doing that in front of me," Kate Stafford of Moorhead says.
The challenge has people swerving their cars all over the road.
Stafford and her friend, Addison, have TikTok. But they hadn't seen the challenge, so we showed them.
"That was a busy road," Stafford says. "I thought people did it far away from town."
While they admit trying a lot of the challenges on TikTok, these teens are sure that it's a no-no to the cha-cha.
"Everyone wants to do the next coolest thing," Hannah Lorsung of Fargo says. "Yeah, it's fun to watch. But is it really worth it?"
TikTok says it doesn't encourage anyone to participate in dangerous challenges and that they will take down any posts of such content.
