Cam Netwon apologizes for sexist remark

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - At the time he said it was "funny." But it's doubtful that Charlotte Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is laughing anymore.

A spokesman for the NFL team says Newtown has "expressed regret" for his response to a female reporter's question at a news conference yesterday.

When Jourdan Rodrigue asked Newton about the way wide receiver Devin Funchess ran pass patterns, Newton smiled and said: "it's funny to hear a female talk about routes."

He then answered the question.

For her part Rodrigue says in a statement through her newspaper, The Charlotte Observer that Newton didn't apologize to her - and that the comment "belittled" not only her but "countless other women" who have similar jobs.
