MINNEAPOLIS (KARE 11) -- Light snow and extreme cold are causing big problems for drivers across Minnesota..
The latest Minnesota State Patrol estimates show nearly 1,800 accidents since Thursday.
"It's been crazy busy," body shop owner Thomas Smith says. "We've been busy since that first snow fall on Thursday."
Smith owns Vic's and Jim's Collision in Brooklyn Park.
He says the shop is normally closed on Saturdays, but with the added demand this week, he and his employees are working through the weekend.
"My guys are willing to work, they like to work," Smith says.
The Winter season usually brings an uptick in business, however, he says this latest stretch of snow has kept them even busier than usual.
"We've seen about a 30-40 percent increase on top of what we normally have," Smith says.
Contrary to what you might think, Smith says it's not the big blizzards that keep body shops busy.
"It's the light snowfalls that lead to accidents," Smith says. "I think drivers underestimate the road conditions."
At his shop the wait time is three to four weeks. At other shops, it can be longer than that.
Some are still dealing with a few accidents left over from deer season.
