BISMARCK, N.D. A Bismarck man is charged with child abuse after a toddler was taken to the emergency room with a broken femur.

The Bismarck Police Department says they arrested 21-year-old Antwan Alexander Wednesday after he admitted to hitting the two-year-old.

Alexander is accused of grabbing the child’s right ankle and hitting him multiple times on the thigh.

Police say the child was taken to the hospital after someone noticed the baby was limping and believed it was broken.

Alexander asked the person to lie to doctors and say the baby fell because he didn’t want to go back to prison.

He is charged with a class B felony of child abuse of a child under six. He faces a maximum of 10 years in prison.

His initial appearance is Thursday afternoon.
