Beltrami County inmate dies of pneumonia

On September 2nd, Bemidji Police responded to the Beltrami County Jail on a report of an inmate who was unresponsive and not breathing.

The inmate was identified as Hardel Sherrell. It has been determined that Sherrell died in jail from pneumonia.

ORIGINAL: A man in custody of the Beltrami County Sheriff's department died while he was in jail.

It happened on Sunday, Sept. 2. Authorities say 27-year-old Hardel Sherrell of Apple Valley, MN collapsed and was unresponsive around 5 p.m.

Lifesaving efforts were issued by jail staff, but Sherrell was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation into the inmate's death is being conducted by the Bemidji Police Department and the Beltrami County Coroner's Office along with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office.
