Baby boomers driving workforce, according to research

(NBC)- Baby boomers are driving job growth in the United States.

According to data compiled by an economic research publication, those Americans over the age of 55, made up about half of all job gains last year. That’s taking into account that the demographic only made up a quarter of last year's labor force. More than 1.4 million jobs were assumed by employees 55 and older.

Last month, more than 39% of baby boomers were employed, the highest level since 1961. Experts say older Americans are simply choosing to work longer with many planning to work full time until after the age of 65.
