A man was shot and killed by police in West Fargo, overnight Monday.

Police say the incident started at 8 p.m. Monday when a West Fargo police officer attempted to stop a driver on a traffic violation. Officials say the man would not pull over, and at one point he rammed into a squad car

The suspect stopped in the 1000 Block of 11th Street West and holed up in his car.

Officers from Fargo, Moorhead, Cass and Clay counties and the Highway Patrol assisted West Fargo police.

SWAT negotiators were brought in, but police say the man would not cooperate.

Heith Janke, West Fargo Police Chief, says that "during those negotiations, the suspect exited his vehicle and posed an imminent threat to the swat officers at that point officers engaged the suspect and shots were fired."

No officers were hurt.

Police are not releasing the suspect's name until relatives are notified.

The Fargo and Moorhead police officers involved in the shooting are on standard leave while the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation investigates the case.
