A fatal car crash in Bismarck is under investigation

BISMARCK, N.D. -- A car crash that happened in Bismarck on I-94 has left one seriously injured and another dead.

On April 16th Mark Backer, 57, and Gail Sailer, 55, were both in their Chevrolet S10 traveling eastbound on I-94. Joran Griffin, 26, was also traveling eastbound in his Jeep Grand Cherokee when he rear-ended the Chevrolet. The driver of the Chevrolet then lost control and traveled across the I-94 eastbound on-ramp from Exit 159 and overturned into the south ditch. Both Sailer and Backer were ejected from the vehicle.

Sailer and Backer were taken by ambulance to the hospital. Sailer passed away from her injuries on Thursday, April 20th. Backer still remains in serious condition.

Griffin, the driver of the Jeep, had left the scene and was later located by law enforcement and taken into custody. The crash still remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
