Update: 77-year-old man who died in tractor accident identified

TRAILL COUNTY, N.D (Valley News Live) (Update): We now know the name of the 77-year-old man who was killed in a rollover tractor accident Friday in Traill County.

In a media release, North Dakota Highway Patrol identified the victim as Alton Anderson.

(Original) - 77-year-old man is dead after the tractor he was driving rolled over in Traill County crushing him, according to highway troopers.

In a media release, North Dakota Highway Patrol stated the man was operating a John Deere 3020 Tractor that was pulling a sickle mower cutting grass for hay.

He was driving northbound Friday at around 5:13 p.m. alongside a ditch on 247 148th Ave NE near Portland.

According to troopers, he turned left toward the roadway to go around a culvert opening.

Instead, the front tire of the tractor got stuck in a sink hole and dropped into the hole causing the tractor to roll onto its top.

Troopers said the driver was crushed and died at the scene.

The tractor wasn’t equipped with a roll bar or cab, according to a media release.
