MOORHEAD, M.N. (Valley News Live) -- Golfers blew the dust off their golf clubs as they headed to the greens Saturday. Hundreds headed to the Village Green and Meadows Public Golf Courses where they opened their doors for the first time this season.
Both courses opened their doors at 9 a.m. Saturday.
"It was a long winter," said Village Green member Carmen Walter.
Walter said golf is different because it's between you and the course.
Other golfers like Jamie Emmerich are excited to be back on the golf grind at Meadows and Village Green.
"I just wanted to take my boys out for the first day, we sure do love golfing," said Emmerich.
She said she's no stranger to the par-tee. She's been coming to the courses since she was eight.
"I used to go golfing with my dad and I thought that it was very important for us to keep that tradition going," said Emmerich. "I think he went when he was a child with his dad and I just think that it's a great bonding experience."
She hopes to keep the tradition alive with her little birdies.
"Jack here who's been golfing since he was about two and half three years old," said Emmerich. "And Mason, he started last year when he was three."
Other golfers say they'll be swinging for as long as they can.
"You know at the end of the day golf is something that I wanna do it till I literally can't anymore," said golfer Wade Youngblom.
The Village Green Golf Course said they plan on staying open until sometime in October.
