NBC - As we get closer to summer doctors are reminding parents about the importance of water safety and preventing drowning in children.
The American Academy of Pediatrics urges new parents to be vigilant at bath time and to empty all buckets and wading pools immediately.
Likewise adults should always be within an arm's length of infants and toddlers when they are swimming or in the tub.
Even with older children or better swimmers parents should watch carefully and avoid other distractions.
Drowning is the leading cause of injury-related death in young children.
