Kate Steinle's murder acquitted by California jury

Kate Steinle's murder was an undocumented immigrant who had been deported 5 times. Kate Steinle and her father, Jim Steinle, we walking on the San Francisco Pier when Kate was shot in the back. Jose Ines Garcia Zarate told police that it was an accident. Public defenders for Garcia Zarate said that he found the gun and when he picked it up, it went off, ricocheting of the pavement before hitting Kate in the back.

A San Francisco County Superior Court jury found Garcia Zarate not guilty of murder or manslaughter. Instead, they found him guilty of being a felon in possession of a gun, carrying a sentence up to three years.

San Francisco is a sanctuary city.
