Red River Valley Fair honors Hometown Heroes

WEST FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) - The Red River Valley Fair held a special ceremony Tuesday night to honor past and present military members, and first responders from the surrounding community.

The Hometown Heroes Award Ceremony is open to nominees who served between 1940 and the present day, are living, and reside within a 75 to 100 mile radius of the fair.

What organizers are looking for

Cody Cashman, CEO of the Red River Valley Fair, said the event is about recognizing people who continue to serve beyond their official roles.

“We’re finding people who are just doing amazing things in our community,” Cashman said.

“That not only serve, but serve when they take off the badge, serve when they get home, they go and help their local food banks. Or, they help at their local fairgrounds, right? That’s what it’s all about and we’re really, really proud to have the hometown heroes here.”

In addition to the Hometown Hero Award, several attendees also received scholarships during the ceremony.
