‘Just please come home’: Grand Forks mom pleads for return of missing pregnant daughter
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (Valley News Live) - Fargo police are asking for the public’s help locating a missing 16-year-old who is approximately eight months pregnant and believed to still be in the region.
Evey Parisien-Lafountain was last seen around 11 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, in south Fargo. Investigators have since said they believe she may be in the Fargo or Grand Forks areas.
Timeline of disappearance
On May 19, Evey was seen leaving school early. Her adopted mother, Melissa Speers, went to file protection orders against Evey’s boyfriend, his mother and stepfather following a conflict with them.
Speers located Evey through Snapchat in Fargo and contacted police. She asked officers to place Evey in a Fargo shelter while she completed paperwork. A judge granted the temporary protection orders.
“I talked to a lady from the county, she had come over. She was like ‘Well, maybe, you know, if you want her staying there so you can get some relief and that way she’s safe and everything.’ So I said, ' Yeah, let’s just do this for a little bit. From there, she had taken off, from the shelter.”
Family appeals for Evey’s return
Speers said she has been able to see an updated Snapchat location for Evey on several occasions but has not been able to bring her home.
“I’m not mad at her. I just want her to come home where she’s safe and you’ll get your medical needs taken care of with her baby coming, you know? I just don’t want her being out on the streets and living like that because it’s just not stable. It’s not good,” Speers said.
Evey’s due date is in July. Speers said she hopes sharing her story will help the community bring Evey home before the baby arrives.
“I want her home. We all want her home,” Speers said. “Evey, just please come home — That’s all I want to do.”
“This is something that I would never want on anybody. Looking for their daughter and not knowing where to look,” Speers said.
