CAUGHT ON VIDEO: Car destroys mailbox in Moorhead neighborhood hit-and-run
MOORHEAD, Minn. (Valley News Live) - Residents in a Moorhead neighborhood are dealing with property damage after a hit-and-run incident that was captured on home security cameras.
In the video, a white van can be seen slamming into several mailboxes in the Mallard Creek neighborhood near 37th Avenue before speeding away from the scene.
The entire incident was recorded by a homeowner’s security system, providing clear footage of the destruction.
Homeowner, Grace Brown, expressed worry about what could have happened if someone had been in the path of the vehicle.
“There was somebody walking right there like 30 seconds before that, what if they were in the grass? If a dog was going to the bathroom in the grass there, would the mailbox have hit them?” she asked.
Brown emphasized the broader safety implications for the community, particularly regarding children in the area.
“If they can hit a mailbox like that no problem, if they’re looking at their phone, they could easily hit a kid,” she said. “Obviously, I’d rather it be a mailbox, but that’s unfortunate if that were to happen, it has been happening in Moorhead.”
Brown said they were left paying over $100 dollars for the damages to their mailbox.
After the incident, she’s calling for accountability from the driver who fled the scene.
“It just takes a little bit of extra time to be a nice person, you should take accountability, and have respect for people’s things and property,” she added.
Brown said she filed a police report, but authorities indicated without a clear license plate number visible in the footage, their investigation options are limited.
