New, affordable senior housing opens in Fargo

FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) - It’s another step forward for affordable housing in Fargo. Thanks to Beyond Shelter Inc., an organization helping find affordable housing in Fargo.

The Plaza Apartments opened Wednesday over at 1376 Oak Manor Avenue South, the old K-mart site. The complex has one-bedroom and two-bedroom units in addition to a community room with a kitchen, in-unit washer and dryer, and detached garages.

“Essentially, what we’re seeing here in Fargo is a significant demand and need for affordable senior housing. With these 39 units, essentially with these units, all of them are spoken for. We have currently 172 senior households on the waiting list. The beneficiaries are senior households that need an affordable place to call home,” said Dan Madler, the CEO at Beyond Shelter.

Beyond Shelter is planning on building more units on 65th Avenue with construction on the first phase set to start next summer.
