BECKER COUNTY, Minn. (Valley News Live) - A Becker County jury convicted Morris Silas Dodd, Jr. of second-degree manslaughter-culpable negligence for causing the death of a retired Lake Park, Minnesota Police Chief.

Dodd shot 53-year-old Jay Nelson while he was hunting on the White Earth Reservation back in November of 2018. Dodd says he was trying to shoot a deer.

He previously pled guilty to two counts of ineligible person in possession of a firearm. Dodd hasn’t been allowed to own guns since being convicted of sex crimes back in the ‘90s.

He will be sentenced in July.
