Grafton Voters Will Decide Approval Of A Half-Cent Sales Tax

Posted: Updated:
The decision on whether or not to give approval to a half cent sales tax will be in the hands of Grafton voters during the November 4th elections.

The money would help pay for a $52 million diversion project for the Park River that would be built around the north end of town.

It would take Grafton out of the 100 year plain.

The city's mayor tells us it would likely take about 25 years to raise the revenue needed to help fund the project, and the proposed tax has a clause that makes it expire after that time frame.

The state water commission may also kick in anywhere from $5 to $12 million in funding.

If approved, construction could begin within a year to 2.5 years, with the full project completed within four years.
