Bus Driver Investigated After Post to Facebook

Posted: Updated:
The Maple Valley school district sprung into action after a concerning Facebook post by a bus driver was brought to their attention.

The post reads, "Did my first afternoon bus route today, so yes that means I was sober today all day ;) I did get lost at one point, luckily my Indian skills kicked in and I found the right road. Everybody made it home safely and I even had treats for them. I'm nice when I'm sober all day. Who woulda thunk!!"

The Cass County Sheriff's Department and North Dakota Highway Patrol were notified by the school district on Thursday afternoon in case they were needed for assistance.  Brian Wolf with Maple Valley schools tells Valley News Live they immediately confronted the bus driver and determined there was never any threat to the safety of students, school personnel or the community.

Wolf says the content of the Facebook post is not consistent with the high professional standards expected from Maple Valley employees. The district has not yet determined what, if any, disciplinary action will be taken and have communicated to all district faculty about proper use of social media.

"We consider this an unfortunate event a learning opportunity for everyone - a reminder that anything posted online is in the public realm, and we are held to a high standard of personal conduct," Wolf said.

Wolf says the employee who made the post was embarrassed and remorseful, and fully cooperated with the investigation.

Friday on Valley News Live at 5:00 p.m., what one local counselor has to say about the post and the culture of social media and substance abuse in the valley.
