UPDATE: Fire at Rural Moorhead House Ruled Arson

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE

It was quite a spectacle lighting the sky south of Moorhead late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning. Investigators now believe arson is the cause of the fire that destroyed an abandoned home in the Crestwood addition.

Lieutenant Stephen Landsem of the Clay County Sheriff's Office tells us there was no electrical service to the home and no lightening in the area. A $5,000 dollar reward is being offered by the Minnesota Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators to help find out who started the fire.

Firefighters from Sabin and Dilworth fought to keep the fire from spreading.  The house was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived.

Call the Clay County Sheriff's Office at 218-299-5151 if you have information regarding this fire.

ORIGINAL STORY

F
irefighters battled a Tuesday night fire that engulfed an abandoned rural Moorhead house. Clay County Deputies say Sabin, MN, firefighters got the call around midnight that a 2-story farm house at 6300 7th Street SW., was engulfed in flames.

Sgt. Mark Empting from the Clay County Sheriff's Department says that since it's such a rural area and there's no hydrants in the area, firefighters called in Dilworth's Fire Department to help bring in water.

Luckily, no one was hurt but the house is destroyed. Deputies say it's going to be a long night for firefighters to put out hot spots.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The State Fire Marshal will be called out to help determine the cause.

Clay Co. Sheriff's Department, Salvation Army, Sabin Rescue and F-M Ambulance were all called out to the scene.
