First Mother/Daughter Duo to Be Inducted Into Bowling Hall of Fame

Story from NewsDakota.com:

“I had never bowled in my life until I started working in Jamestown.”

That’s what long time Jamestown resident Kitty Bender stated when asked how she got her start in bowling. She can thank her friend for her success.

“I didn’t know anything about bowling. She got me started and that was it.” Kitty stated.

Kitty Bender and her daughter Cammy Ost have both been selected to be inducted into the State Women’s Bowling Hall of Fame. They will be the first mother and daughter duo to be inducted at the same time. Cammy will be inducted for Superior Performance and Kitty will be inducted as Star of Yesteryear.

“Our family was full of bowlers.” Kitty stated. “My husband and I would bring the kids down to Majestic Lanes when they were in Jamestown in the basement of the Brass Rail. We would bowl several games and we’d be there so long that the kids would sleep on the benches.”

In order to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, a nominee had to have many achievements, state tournament wins and other tournaments around the state. Both of them did that and more.

“I received two certificates for bowling so many games at a time. I received two presidential certificates; One from Nixon and one from Ford.” Kitty stated.

Cammy achieved a highly prestigious status by once bowling a 300 in the Jamestown City tournament several years ago. When she was 16, she didn’t participate in other sports that many other women did at her age. She joined the Woman’s Bowling League in Jamestown and has been bowling for about 41 years. Her mother has been bowling for 51 years.

“If I wasn’t having problems with my shoulder, I’d still be out there.” Kitty stated.

Kitty Bender and Cammy Ost will both be inducted into the City and State Bowling Hall of Fame, joining father and husband Bob Bender in the Jamestown City Hall of Fame for Bowling. The induction ceremony will take place in Dickinson on September 20th.
