Bismarck Baseball Team Crowned National Champions

Posted: Updated:
An astounding group of Bismarck 12-year-olds is representing North Dakota and can now call themselves national champions.

Bismarck Americans coach Brad Miller said after pool-play, that the Bronx New York was most talented team in the 12-year-old Cal Ripken World Series. That's who the Capital City crew met for the national championship tonight in Florida.

Bismarck beat Santa Fe, Florida 11-to-1 in the semi-finals Tuesday morning to advance to the title game against the Bronx.

It turns out Coach Miller was wrong. Bismarck was the best team in the tournament. During the game Cam Miller pitched a complete game only allowing one run.

One of the smallest players on the Bismarck team had the biggest hit Tuesday night. Alex Krug was 9th in the Americans order but with the bases loaded he sent it over the fence for a Grand Slam home run.

It put Bismarck ahead 7-to-1 at the time. The Americans put one more run on the board and won the national championship 8-to-2.

The team will fly to Minneapolis Wednesday and bus into Bismarck so the welcome home celebration will not be until 9:00pm at Space Aliens on Wednesday Night.
